Bangladesh textile industry requires import tariffs on boiler fuel

According to Bangladesh's "Financial Express" reported on September 19, Bangladesh textile companies are struggling to survive and are at a competitive disadvantage due to continued natural gas shortages. Therefore, the Bangladesh textile industry has called on the government to exempt boiler fuels from import tariffs to ensure fuel supply. Due to the scarcity of natural gas, Bangladesh's domestic textile industry continued to shrink, with only 17 new plants in operation between 2012 and 2016. By the end of 2016, there were 424 textile mills, 794 weaving mills and 241 dyeing and finishing and printing plants in Bangladesh. At present, the industry's output value reaches 600 million US dollars, the annual production capacity is 2.41 billion kilograms of yarn, the textile fabric production capacity is 3.558 billion meters, and the printing and dyeing and printing capacity is 279,500 meters.
